Color Trilogy - Red

red mist
glass lies shattered about the room
a wooden table violently dismantled
cold air seeping through ah ole in the window
slipping about the room like a snake
choking out warmth
maggots squirm slowly in a hole in the wall
together like a single organism
feeding on the wall
it is made of flesh
shredded clothes strewn about
from t-shirts to sweaters to leather
nothing was protected, nothing was intact
on top of a gutted mattress lay a mutilated body
not dead
quick puffs of breath visible in the chill air
from numerous wounds, blood soaks into the dark blue sheets
turning them black
the shredded clothing clings wetly to the blood-leaking wounds
swarming through the maggot hole, tiny red spiders
marching to the body, injecting their poison before dying
could the poison be the culprit? Was this the destructive beast?
the body lay peacefully, in the ruined area
satisfied
for now
