Fall in the Pit
By Jennifer Haynes

I look at my life and what do I see?
Pain, grief, and misery.
The bright optimism that I once knew,
has been destroyed, thrown askew.
If it weren’t for my friends I’d have no hope at all;
my days would go by in a monotonous crawl.
I’m teetering on the edge of an endless pit,
I won’t fall in if my friends keep their grip.
But the world is now such an ominous place
I can’t even look my own dad in the face.
Will it get better? I’m afraid not.
I fear I am tangled in an impossible knot.
Such pessimism! I hear you say,
but I can’t help it, now that’s my way.
